 Local Culture

This is an area that I have put art and cultural things to share.

Watershed Warriors is about Friends of the Fox River and features Dundee Crown Students.

Painting on the Fox River Trail!  Documents the first mural painted in East Dundee sponsored by the East Dundee Arts Council. The mural was painted by artist Madeline Deiters. I had the honor of being the consulting naturalist.

Local film maker Hallie Sanclemente Morrison created the film Essential Voyage. https://halliemorrison.myportfolio.com/film-1

"Essential Voyage: Indigenous Wisdom Will Save Us All" is a surreal, environmental short film based on true stories and real dreams of their process of “becoming indigenous” to the lands of the Ho-Chunk, Sioux, Potawatomi, Menominee, and many other Native peoples, as a first-generation Colombian-American. From dreams of antiquated stoves and hyper-individualism, to talking with plants and being denied travel for lacking an Earth Protection agenda, this film visualizes some of the ways that human and non-human beings are communicating with us to protect Mother Earth.

Hallie has also created an Indigenous Incubator in Elgin, IL.

Supported by an Elevating Equity grant, I'm organizing this program to centralize a visioning cohort of Natives and non-Natives focused on the local environment and collective health of the Elgin community. The 9-month program's goals are to better 1. Understand the lands of the Ho-Chunk, Potawatomi, Kickapoo, Myaamia, and original stewards, so that we can better 2. Value the lands, and feel 3. Accountable for them, which incentivizes us to 4. Protect them, and ultimately 5. Re-envision them.
